Bio Oil Stretch Mark Review

If you are one of the millions of people who have those unsightly stretch marks on your stomach, legs or arms you have probably wished for some miracle product that would fade those marks forever and give your skin back it's natural look. Bio Oil made by the Union-Swiss Company of Cape Town, South Africa claims to just that and more.

Bio oil not only claims to fade stretch marks, but scars as well, and even your skin tone, reduce wrinkles and hydrate the skin. Bio Oil sells for $10.50 for a 2 ounce bottle and claims that this is a non greasy skin product that over time will fade scars and stretch marks, reduce wrinkles and give your skin a healthier appearance.

Ingredients:

While there is a whole slew of ingredients that make up Bio Oil, the main ingredients are vitamin A and E, calendula oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, chamomile oil and Purcellin oil. It also contains mineral oil as well.

The addition of vitamin E in the ingredients of this product was good to see, as vitamin E when used on the skin is known to help scars heal and become less noticeable. However, on the opposite end of the spectrum the use of mineral oil in this product raises some concerns. Mineral oil has been banned in skin care products in Europe because it is believed that over time it actually dehydrates the skin.

Does This Product Do What It Claims?

The important question here is does Bio Oil actually do what it claims to do? First, it claims to be non greasy. It seems unlikely that a product containing no less than 6 different oils would not feel greasy or oily when applying. Especially when one of the oils contained in the product is mineral oil as it is known to clog pores and sit on the skin. In fact, many people who have tried this product have complained about the greasy feel and look left on their skin.

Second, while some people do claim that this product works to fade scars and stretchmarks and moisturize the skin, others not only claim that it does not work at all but claim that it simply does not absorb into the skin. Which seems to be logical considering that mineral oil is believed to block the absorption of vitamins and minerals.

More concerning is the number of people who experienced rashes, skin irritations and the drying of their skin. These rashes and skin irritations do not seem to be limited to only people with sensitive skin but, to people who have never had skin problems in the past.

Conclusion:

While some people do claim that Bio Oil works for reducing appearance of stretch marks, others do not. The number of people who are experiencing skin irritations and rashes from using this product is cause for grave concern. In addition, Bio Oil contains mineral oil one must wonder just how many of the vitamins and nutrients this oil contains really reach the lower levels of the skin where it can do the most good. Considering the mixed reviews and the definite negative side affects of this product consumers might be better served to find a product that is more effective and gentler to their skin.
